The Rotary Club of Bonita Beach Sunset is a dynamic group of community leaders, who come together in fellowship to make great things happen in the community. We build friendships, promote our businesses, and support our community. No challenge is too big for Rotary. For more than a century, we’ve bridged cultures and connected continents. We champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, help people get access to clean water and sanitation, and fight disease. Our newest cause is to protect our planet and its resources. Help us create lasting change. Solving some of the world’s most complex and pressing problems takes real commitment and vision. Rotary members believe that we share a responsibility to take action to improve our communities. Join us, so that we can make an even bigger impact – together.

We meet at 6:00pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at RipTide Brewery. We would love for you to be our guest. Arrive at 5:30 for some social time before the meeting starts at 6:00. The address is 28120 Hunters Ridge Blvd. Bonita Springs, FL.

“The Rotary Club of Bonita Beach Sunset Takes Lead in the Fight to Eradicate Polio!”

Polio, a crippling, and potentially deadly infectious disease, has been a significant global health challenge for decades. The Rotary Club of Bonita Beach Sunset is diligently working to make an impact!

Polio, a crippling, and potentially deadly infectious disease has been a significant global health challenge for decades. The importance of eradicating polio cannot be overstated, as this disease primarily affects children under the age of five, causing irreversible paralysis and, in some cases, death. Thanks to extensive vaccination campaigns, polio has been reduced by over 99% since 1988. However, until polio is entirely eradicated, all countries remain at risk of outbreaks. Achieving a polio-free world is crucial not only for the health of children but also for the social and economic stability of communities worldwide.

Eradicating polio will have profound implications for global health. Once eradicated, the world will no longer need to spend billions of dollars on polio immunizations, allowing these resources to be redirected towards other critical health challenges. Moreover, eradicating polio would ensure that future generations are free from the fear of this debilitating disease. The lessons learned, and the infrastructure developed during the polio eradication initiative will also enhance the ability to combat other infectious diseases, improving overall global health resilience.

Rotary International has made the eradication of polio a priority and this priority continues to happen at all levels. Recently, Rich Willett and his wife, Cheryl Willett, the District 6960 End Polio Co-Chairs, hosted an event with his wife, past club president, Cheryl Willett, raising $1325 to support Rotary’s goal of eradicating polio. Rich was a healthy 18-month-old until early August of 1950. Living in his small hometown of Agawam, Mass., he had a fever one evening and awoke to being paralyzed below the neck. After being diagnosed with polio, he was hospitalized and eventually took part in therapy sessions in nearby Springfield to maximize his physical abilities.

Today, Rich is an advocate for those stricken with polio and continues to work diligently to be a leader in its eradication. Ensuring that every child is vaccinated, even in the most remote and conflict-affected areas, is vital to stopping the transmission of the virus and Rich and his wife Cheryl are front-line warriors in this endeavor.

Bonita Beach Sunset Rotary holds the 2nd annual Get Down and Derby Fundraiser

The Bonita Beach Sunset Rotarians hosted their 2nd annual Get Down and Derby Fundraiser on Saturday May 7 at RipTide Brewery in Bonita Springs. Attendees showed up in Derby style and enjoyed live music, food and drink. The best part is the funds raised for community service projects of the Rotary Club.

Congratulations to our 2021 Vocational Service Award Winner Nicole McBride!

Nicole McBride is a second grade teacher at Pinewoods Elementary School. Nicole has stood out as a leader and advocate for children in our community during a time that has been unlike any other. Being a teacher is extremely hard, but being a teacher in a pandemic is unmanageable for so many yet here they are supporting and teaching our children not only the curriculum but also how to adapt to this crazy new world we are living in. Now go ahead and add child who has a medical condition that affects her physically, emotionally and cognitively. That takes a truly special person to take on. One child's parents are who nominated Nicole for this award. Nicole McBride is an asset to our community and to our children's future which is why we are proud to honor her with this years Vocational Service Award.

Literacy Council Receives Gifts

We’re on a roll! After a successful End Polio Now FUNdraiser, our Sunset Rotary Club hosted another Social and FUNdraiser on November 24th. We all brought books and supplies to donate to the Literacy Council Gulf Coast that teaches young children to read, and English as a second language for adults.
